Our Center for Digital Safety & Security located in Vienna invites applications for an internship. Our experts from the Center for Digital Safety & Security are developing state-of-the-art information and communication technologies to ensure that our systems are highly secure and reliable in the context of comprehensive digitalisation and global networking - Hereby we focus on a variety of key technologies like Distributed IT Systems, Internet of Things, IoT, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain Technologies, Quantum & Photonic Technologies, Wireless Systems (6G) and Digital solutions for crisis & disaster management.

Our research field Enabling Digital Technologies (EDT) within the Competence Unit "Security and Communication Technologies" is working on new methods to exploit physical properties of optical and wireless communication media and their quantum prerequisites to increase safety and security.

Internship "6G Broadband Radio Channel Measurement System"

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

• Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team, you will support the research on a broadband radio channel measurement system for frequencies from 1 GHz to 6 GHz as well as for the mmWave band.
• You will get a detailed insight into state-of-the-art software defined radio (SDR) hardware and software design tools.
• You will get familiar with real-time programming of field programmable gate arrays using VHDL and high-level frameworks (RFNoC).
• You will learn how to use and extend the function of the AIT broadband radio channel measurement system.
• You will gain practical experience in the area of real-time SDR experimentation for advanced 6G systems and will train scientific working.
• You will obtain a working broadband radio channel measurement system for mobile use cases.
• You will have the opportunity to discuss your work experiences and results with experienced scientific peers and will be able to connect with other bachelor's, master's or PhD students.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

• You are enrolled in master's studies programme in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering or Computer Science
• You have good knowledges in FPGA programming and signal processing; Know-how on SDR systems and radio wave propagation is a plus
• You enjoy application-oriented questions from industry
• Interest to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate on different topics
• Good verbal and written English and German skills

What to expect:

• Duration of the internship: minimum 1 month
• Start date: between April and September 2025 - there is some flexibility concerning the start-date
• A remuneration of EUR 1.415,-- gross per month for 38.5 hours per week. In addition to our company benefits, we offer flexible working conditions and work experience in a highly innovative environment.
