Senior Ruby Backend Developer (m/w/d)

We are a growing startup based in Austria, seeking a Ruby Backend Developer with a strong background in Ruby on Rails development. This role is a full-time position of 38.5 hours per week, based in Vienna, Austria. The role offers the flexibility of remote work, with the option for onsite collaboration in Vienna. We will not consider contracts with freelancers.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in Ruby on Rails development, complemented by a profound understanding of web application development and adherence to software engineering best practices. We are seeking a candidate with additional DevOps skills, including setup of linux servers, configuration of EC2 instances on AWS, and the design of cloud infrastructure with a focus on reliability and availability. We are seeking a candidate who can foster innovation and contribute significantly to our technology team.

Requirements

Development:

  • 4+ years of professional experience in web development with Ruby on Rails
  • In-depth expertise of popular Ruby libraries such as RSpec, Sidekiq, and Devise.
  • A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of developing RESTful and GraphQL APIs for FE frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with TypeScript and React is a plus.
  • Experience with document-oriented databases such as Solr or ElasticSearch is a plus.
  • Good communication skills in English (German is a plus).
  • Enthusiasm for Artificial Intelligence.

DevOps:

  • Strong knowledge of setting up Linux servers for production environments.
  • Experience in designing cloud infrastructure on AWS with a focus on reliability and accessibility.
  • Solid knowledge of configuring EC2 servers on AWS.
  • Experience in controlling traffic / access of resources on AWS using Security Groups.
  • Familiarity with Capistrano, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring tools is an advantage.

The position offers a competitive monthly salary of EUR 3.828 minimum for full-time engagement, in accordance with the labor agreement. We are open to offering a higher salary based on your specific experience and qualifications.
